I Dare To Dream Bigger!

One day, our teacher asked, ”What do you want to be when you grow up?.” In the eyes of some of my peers, there was excitement, and in others, uncertainty. I have the wonderful privilege of having a last name that starts with a W. This advantage allows me to contemplate my answer in great depth before I speak.

“Basketball player!”,” said Jamar, ”I want to be a scoring champion with everyone wearing my shoes, screaming my name.” “Yup, after 20 years, I can retire and they can retire my number.” Another peer said that she wanted to be a surgeon so that she could save lives by performing cutting-edge surgeries. “These hands will help save many lives, and in 30 years I’ll retire,” she said.

TJ said he wanted to be a defense lawyer to defend those who needed help. You know, one of the successful ones that has all of the commercials with the single digit numbers. Some of my cases will be national news, and after 40 years, I’ll retire.” Now it”s my turn, and my teacher restated the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

I made eye contact with every individual present. My teacher’s eyes were the last pair I focused on. Then I spoke, “I’m going to be my own boss!” I continued. A basketball player can dribble so many years before a younger and faster phenom balls him out of the gym. The surgeon can only perform surgeries as long as their hands and eyesight don’t fail over many years of work. As for lawyers, well, they may have a long career, full of interesting stories. Unfortunately, they’ll spend the majority of their time in and out of court making a name for themselves.

“Your own boss?”, she laughed, and I replied, “Yes, a boss! I’m going to draft the number one pick and offer them a life-changing salary to play for my team. Then I’m going to hire a doctor and a surgeon to take care of and monitor the athlete’s health and well-being. Lastly, I’ll hire an attorney to draft all of my contracts and defend anyone in my organization. “How?” someone shouted. “By owning the team, employed with whom I need to create a successful environment where the average Joe can thrive.”

“Those are big goals,” my teacher responded, then she asked, “How will I make your fortune?” As a PBSer, I excitedly responded, then I finished with this! In Philippians 4:13, it states that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Then in John 14:12, Jesus says we will be able to do greater things than he has done. So, as an entrepreneur who understands, believes, and applies these truths to my businesses, I Dare To Dream Bigger!
